Daily Mass Reading for Saturday, April 5th 2025

As today is Saturday, April 5, 2025, the Catholic Church observes the Saturday of the Fourth Week of Lent. The Mass readings for today are as follows:

First Reading: Jeremiah 11:18-20

In this passage, the prophet Jeremiah speaks of his awareness of plots against him, revealed by the Lord. He compares himself to a gentle lamb led to slaughter, unaware of the schemes devised to harm him. Despite this, Jeremiah places his trust in God’s justice.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 7:2-3, 9bc-10, 11-12

Response: “O Lord, my God, in you I take refuge.”

This psalm is a plea for deliverance from persecutors, expressing confidence in God’s righteousness and His role as a just judge who protects the upright in heart.

Gospel: John 7:40-53

In this Gospel passage, there is division among the people regarding Jesus’ identity. Some believe He is the Prophet or the Christ, while others question this, citing His origin from Galilee. The temple guards, sent to arrest Jesus, return without doing so, impressed by His words. The Pharisees dismiss their sentiments, leading to a discussion about the law and prophets.
