As today is Friday, March 21, 2025, the Catholic Church observes the Friday of the Second Week of Lent. The Mass readings for today are as follows:
First Reading: Genesis 37:3-4, 12-13a, 17b-28a
This passage recounts the story of Joseph, who was favored by his father, Israel, leading to jealousy among his brothers. They conspired against him, ultimately selling him into slavery to a caravan of Ishmaelites.
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 105:16-17, 18-19, 20-21
Response: “Remember the marvels the Lord has done.”
The psalm reflects on God’s providence, highlighting how He sent Joseph ahead to Egypt, where he would later rise to a position of authority, ensuring the survival of his people during famine.
Gospel: Matthew 21:33-43, 45-46
In this parable, Jesus describes a landowner who planted a vineyard and leased it to tenants. When the landowner sent his servants to collect the produce, the tenants mistreated and killed them. Finally, he sent his son, whom they also killed. Jesus uses this parable to illustrate the rejection of prophets and, ultimately, Himself, by the leaders of Israel.
