Prayer of the Day – Friday 14th March 2025

As today is Friday, March 14, 2025, during the First Week of Lent, the Catholic Mass readings are as follows:

First Reading: Ezekiel 18:21-28

In this passage, the Lord declares that if a wicked person turns away from their sins and observes His statutes, they shall live and not die. Conversely, if a righteous person turns to iniquity, their previous righteousness will not save them.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 130:1-2, 3-4, 5-7a, 7bc-8

Response: “If you, O Lord, mark iniquities, who can stand?”

This psalm is a plea for mercy, expressing trust in the Lord’s forgiveness and redemption.

Gospel: Matthew 5:20-26

Jesus teaches that one’s righteousness must surpass that of the scribes and Pharisees to enter the kingdom of heaven. He emphasizes reconciliation, advising that if you remember a grievance while offering your gift at the altar, first be reconciled with your brother or sister before presenting your offering.
